About your instructors

Gizem Acar

Founder & Lead Instructor

I completed my Pilates certification at the STOTT PILATES International Training Center in Toronto after experiencing first-hand the many health benefits that Pilates offers. Prior to becoming a certified Pilates instructor, I trained in classical ballet with the Royal Academy of London in Istanbul, where I gained a deep understanding of movement patterns that balance form, flexibility, and strength.

After having two kids in the last two years, I have experienced a tremendous transformation mentally and physically. I kept the foundation of my work in Pilates and incorporated multiple disciplines, including weight training, to maximize my gains. Seeing incredible results, both mentally and physically, this became my teaching principal and led me to develop the program for Core Wellness.

Certifications

  • Stott Pilates: Mat Work, Reformer, Cadillac/ Stability Chair/Spine Corrector/Arc and Ladder Barrel

  • ISSA Certified Personal Training

  • ISSA Certified Nutritionist

I’m motivated to help my clients achieve optimal physical well-being so that they can live happier and healthier lives.

Laurel Klafehn

Yoga Instructor

I am a yoga and movement instructor with 8 years of teaching experience across group and private classes. My style as an instructor exists at the intersection of modern neuroscience and movement and breath practices at the core of the yoga traditions. I am a certified 200 Hour YTT instructor, with an 80 Hour advanced certificate in Functional Neurology and Yoga.

My experience spans across many modalities, including asana-based flow classes, restorative yoga, and recovery from surgery and/or sports injuries. My main goal is to cultivate a space where students can recognize and appreciate the unique capabilities and sensations of their bodies. My classes are designed to be physically challenging and mentally energizing - and to encourage longterm mobility and strength.

My goal is to guide you to greater presence and possibility in your own body by way of challenging movements and restful breathwork.

  • “Gizem has been a tremendous influence in my road to recovery after having a c-section and microdiscectomy last year. She tailors each session to my needs for that day and the progress we are making. Gizem is very thorough in explaining what parts of the body should be utilized in each exercise and how to activate them. This feedback helps me to stay present in the session and really tune into my body’s needs. She is amazing to work with bringing joy and positivity to each session. I highly recommend Gizem for any expecting or new mothers – her knowledge and understanding of the physical and emotional challenges that come along with bundles of joy is incredible and vital to your postpartum recovery. I can’t thank Gizem enough for the work she has done in putting me back together!”

  • “Gizem Acar is an experienced trainer with diverse skills and expertise in body flexibility, strength, and movement.  As someone who had only done weight training and a beginner to Pilates, I was astounded by how much I was neglecting my core.  In only a short period of time of working with Gizem, I saw a significant improvement in my general flexibility and overall core strength.  I would highly recommend Gizem’s Pilates classes for anyone who is looking to take their health and wellness to the next level.”
